Dr. Alexandra L. Braunstein, MD, is a highly-skilled ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, also known as oculoplastic surgery. She has received extensive training in aesthetic and reconstructive surgeries involving all aspects of the eyes and face in adult and pediatric populations. She currently offers oculofacial plastic surgery services to patients in the Morristown region of New Jersey.
Education & Training
Dr. Alexandra L. Braunstein, MD, received her medical education at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she received a comprehensive education in the fundamentals of medicine and the skills necessary to provide high-quality patient care. Following graduation, she continued her training by completing a residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Columbia University Harkness Eye Institute-New York Presbyterian Hospital. This residency provided her with in-depth training in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of ophthalmic conditions, as well as hands-on experience in performing complex eye surgeries.
After completing her residency, Dr. Braunstein elected to pursue a two-year, multi-disciplinary Fellowship in Orbital, Ophthalmic Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. During this intensive program, she received extensive training in the latest techniques used in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, the surrounding facial structures, the lacrimal or tear drainage system, and the eye socket. This training has given her a unique ability to care for the delicate and dynamic area around the eyes while protecting and improving her patient’s ocular health.
Professional Accomplishments
Dr. Braunstein is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University, where she continues to train resident ophthalmologists. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the New York Oculoplastic Society. Dr. Braunstein has also made significant contributions to the field through her research and has authored numerous articles and book chapters. Her work has been widely presented throughout the United States and abroad.
Community Involvement
Dr. Braunstein, a proud native of New Jersey, finds joy in both living and working in the scenic Morris County area alongside her husband and two young children. In addition to her personal and professional life, she holds a significant leadership role as the Section Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Overlook Medical Center. Dr. Braunstein is deeply involved in her community, serving on the board of directors of The Morris Museum and as Vice President of the Avallain Foundation. Her active participation in these organizations allows her to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals within her community and further afield, demonstrating her commitment to both her field and her locale.

Dr. Alexandra Braunstein is a proud native of New Jersey who is thrilled to have the opportunity to live and work in beautiful Morris County with her husband and two young children. Earlier in her academic life, Dr. Braunstein attended The Pingry School and completed her undergraduate education at Georgetown University, where she graduated with honors.
